"Backseat" by Simha's (feat. Rachel Gonzalez):
Mixing Engineer
I found Simha online through some mutual friends when browsing Instagram and I was thoroughly impressed with his music right away. I loved the vocal harmonies and complex lyrics he was sharing. So when I saw he needed a mix engineer for his next few singles, I absolutely had to work with him! I'm so glad we were able to mix Backseat together. It's a really haunting and beautiful track filled with intricate vocal harmonization and beautiful guitar/keys textures all balanced over a cool and groovy bass and drum groove. The lyrics tell a deeply emotional story using the metaphor of driving to describe the complex problems of the relationship of the main character to his inner voice and the (possibly troublesome) influences of others on their decision making and emotional state.
Simha's music stands out not only for its captivating melodies but also for the depth of emotion and storytelling woven into each song. The vocal harmonies create a rich tapestry of sound, drawing listeners in and evoking a range of emotions from sorrow to inner-strength. The complexity of the lyrics adds another layer of intrigue, inviting the audience to delve deeper into the narrative being presented.
"Backseat" is a prime example of Simha's ability to blend haunting melodies with intricate instrumentation. The track showcases a careful balance of guitar and keys textures, creating a lush sonic landscape that perfectly complements the emotional depth of the lyrics. During the mixing process, we made sure to allow these elements to flow in and out of the mix supporting the "dreamy" feel of the tune and highlighting each moment individually. The groovy bass and drum groove provide a solid foundation for the song, driving the rhythm forward and adding a sense of momentum and urgency to the music similar to the main characters persistent internal struggle. Working with Simha on mixing "Backseat" was a rewarding experience, and I was so happy to work extensively together to bring out the best in the song. I believe this mix we did an excellent job painting a vivid picture of the complex and relatable emotional journey of the main character. The final mix reflects the power of creative collaboration between the artist and engineer.
