When mixing Touk's track, I focused on enhancing the fusion of early 80s music with a contemporary twist to bring out the essence of his vision. The seamless merging of nostalgic sounds with modern elements was a key aspect of creating the incredible final song.
My mixing goals:
Retain the character and punchy-ness of the drums and bass
Bring out the catchy melody and hook
Elaborate the overlapping "disconnected" vocal layers to emphasize the theme of the music
Add special vocal treatment on the background vocals that capture the vibe of the music without being cheesy
The track's emotional depth draws the listener into a world of raw feelings and intricate relationships, making it a powerful and relatable piece of music. I really enjoyed this track, especially because of the mixing challenges that we worked through and the relatable story-line. I believe we struck a great balance of authenticity and creativity with the style while letting the lyrics and music convey the idea clearly.
